What is SOC 2?

SOC (System and Organization Controls) is a voluntary standard established by the American Institute of CPAs as a set of best practices for managing and protecting customer data. A successful SOC 2 report indicates that an organization has been evaluated on several criteria and meets the necessary controls for the security, availability, and confidentiality of data and information.

FORT earned our SOC 2 Type 1 Certification after several audits that examined the company's performance against nearly 100 different controls, assessing our risk management processes, company infrastructure, user access, software systems, anti-virus protection, and much more.

The Type 1 Report reflected what FORT did to limit risk and protect data as of a specific date. For the SOC 2 Type 2 certification, an auditor examined FORT’s data controls over six months to determine that we were following best practices to secure that data on an ongoing basis.

SOC 2 Type 1 vs. Type 2

The difference between SOC 2 Type 1 and SOC 2 Type 2 reports lies in the duration and scope of the assessment.

SOC 2 Type 1 reports cover a specific point in time and evaluate the design of controls in place to meet the predefined criteria. Type 1 also confirms that an organization's control environment meets the predefined criteria at a specific point in time.

On the other hand, SOC 2 Type 2 reports typically cover six months to a year and assess the design and effectiveness of controls for the entire audit period.

SOC 2 Type 2 certification is more comprehensive, assuring that an organization's control environment operates effectively over an extended period--giving peace of mind to customers and stakeholders their data is safe with FORT.

Why SOC Certification is Important

SOC 2 (System and Organization Controls) is a framework designed to help organizations demonstrate their ability to safeguard customer data and ensure data privacy. Independent auditors issue SOC 2 reports after examining and evaluating a company's control environment based on predefined criteria.

SOC 2 certification is essential for any company that processes or stores sensitive customer data. SOC 2 is essential for a robotics company as robots become more integrated into various industries and handle an increasing amount of sensitive data, such as personally identifiable information, financial data, and intellectual property.

SOC 2 certification ensures that a robotics company has appropriate controls to safeguard data and protect it from unauthorized access, disclosure, or theft.

The certification also helps assure our community that FORT takes data privacy and security seriously and is committed to maintaining a secure environment to maintain trust with our stakeholders, including investors, customers, and partners.

Why Does it Matter?

None of us can afford to underestimate the importance of cybersecurity, and its significance is growing exponentially as more of our world becomes connected.

This recognition demonstrates FORT’s commitment to security as we move towards our vision of a safer future. SOC 2 certification and reports are another way FORT is working to deliver a customer experience worthy of loyalty by letting our customers know that their data is handled with the utmost respect and care.

We’re proud to have this recognition of the hard work of our team to keep data as secure as possible.
